  • ASAM Society believes in the power of partnership when it comes to supporting families. Our Collaborative Family Engagement program brings together families, elders, and community members to create personalized, strength-based solutions that promote the well-being of children and preserve family unity.

  • We recognize that every family is unique, with its own strengths and challenges. Our approach involves actively involving parents, extended family members, and cultural leaders in developing a plan that meets the specific needs of the family. By listening, respecting, and valuing family input, we build trust and foster a sense of shared responsibility.

  • Our engagement process focuses on identifying and building upon the strengths of families rather than solely addressing problems. By recognizing and nurturing these strengths, we empower families to take an active role in creating positive change.

  • At the heart of our engagement process is the traditional Sharing Circle, a sacred practice that promotes open communication, respect, and healing. During sharing circles, families can speak their truth in a safe, supportive environment, guided by elders and facilitators.

Support Services Included

  • Parent Coaching: Helping parents develop effective parenting skills and build stronger relationships with their children.

  • Mediation and Conflict Resolution: Facilitating respectful conversations between family members to resolve conflicts in a positive way.

  • Community Support Networks: Connecting families with local support groups, cultural programs, and community services.

  • Follow-Up and Monitoring: Providing ongoing support to ensure that families continue to thrive after initial engagement.

Goals of Collaborative Family Engagement

  1. Strengthen Family Bonds: Encourage families to work together and build healthier relationships.

  2. Promote Cultural Identity: Ensure children remain connected to their heritage and traditions.

  3. Create Sustainable Solutions: Develop long-term strategies that help families maintain a stable, nurturing environment.

  4. Prevent Family Separation: Whenever possible, avoid placing children in out-of-home care by enhancing family capacity.

By working hand in hand with families, ASAM Society strives to build a future where children can grow up in safe, loving, and culturally enriched homes.
