Traditional and Holistic Support for Families

ASAM Society provides comprehensive support to children and families of Frog Lake First Nation through culturally grounded programs. Services include child protection, family enhancement, foster care, and on-call emergency assistance. With a focus on traditional values, the society offers preventative programs, collaborative family engagement, and community-centered initiatives like sharing circles and cultural teachings. ASAM is committed to safeguarding children, strengthening families, and preserving Indigenous heritage while promoting a safe and nurturing environment.

Cultural Teachings and Community Programs

ASAM Society offers culturally enriched programs designed to foster healing, unity, and community growth. These include traditional healing practices such as healing circles, cultural ceremonies, and elder-guided support. Reconciliation programs focus on repairing relationships and building stronger families. Family preservation efforts provide in-home support, counseling, and life lessons from elders to maintain family unity. Additionally, workshops and events promote life skills, parenting techniques, and cultural education, strengthening connections within the Frog Lake First Nation community.

  • In Alberta, Indigenous children represent only 10% of the child population but make up 74% of children in care. Our mission is to address this imbalance with culturally grounded care and support

  • As of March 2023, 33% of children receiving intervention services were placed in foster care, while another 33% were supported through kinship care—emphasizing the importance of community and family ties.

  • Since 2004, over 3,482 students in government care have accessed post-secondary support programs, with more than 1,425 successfully graduating with a degree, diploma, or trade certification—building brighter futures for youth.
